Looks like the worst of it is in Grayson county (strong tornado reported on the ground).  We're in the clear here in the Metro.

About an hour ago it was dark and rainy, but now where I am at it is clear. I think I am hearing the birds chirping out the window now.

Sunshine here now.  That storm in Grayson County looks really bad.  Also looks to be moving into Hardin County.  The line of storms moved through here but seems to have stalled right over the Western Kentucky Parkway and pounding the area.  Glendale will be under the gun in  few minutes.

Hodgenville getting slammed
« Reply #4 on: February 29, 2012, 09:13:19 AM »
Lincoln birthplace country (Hodgenville area) is getting slammed.  Reports of lots of damage.  These storms look to hit Bardstown head on.  Crap.

This is unreal.  The National Weather Service has said that the frontal boundary has stalled over the area that has already been hit with tornadoes, and that tornadoes are forming and tracking repeatedly over the same area, and looks to continue dropping tornadoes over the same area pretty much all day long.  Wow, I'm glad it didn't stall here.

I've never heard of some of these towns. Looks like this leap day is leaping over Louisville  :)

My family roots are all over that region of the state.  I was born in Elizabethtown.  The National Weather Service is now saying that the storms could back-build right over us later today, probably in the afternoon.  The atmosphere is still very unstable here.  We're not out of the woods just yet.

Here is the National Weather Service Satellite image of the storms as of a few minutes ago.  The red circles indicate where the mesocyclones (the sotrm systems where the tornadoes are forming).  The one directly south of Louisville is the largest mesocyclone I've ever seen.  It's friggin huge! The cloud tops are over 50,000 feet high.

I just saw a live helicopter view of the damage to the Owen Trucking company.  It was a huge building, and it's just friggin gone.  Wiped away all the way to the foundation.  There is also major damage in the residential area surrounding the company.  Unbelievable damage.  Reports are still coming in.  I hope no one was injured or lost their life.

Bad day!

Fortunately no one was hurt or killed.  Looks like another similar system is going to race through here tomorrow. And that one, they say, may be even stronger.  Welcome to early spring, folks, brought to you, no doubt, by La Nina and/or AGW.
